Understanding Diversity
Title: "Understanding Diversity" Course Description: The focus of this class is neither EEO nor Affirmative Action, although it is almost impossible to discuss one without at least mentioning the other two. "Understanding Diversity" is an interactive and challenging introduction to the fundamentals of cultural diversity and its relevance in today's workplace. It is about recognizing and responding to the needs of all people in a given workplace for the purpose of creating and maintaining harmony and maximizing retention and productivity. Course Objectives: 1. To recognize the various kinds of diversity-related changes that have taken place in both the workplace and in our country during recent years. 2. To explore definitions & concepts related to diversity issues, paying particular attention to the nature of and pitfalls related to stereotypes. 3. To develop an understanding and appreciation of various kinds of "diversity". 4. To learn how to recognize and avoid various forms of workplace harassment other than sexual harassment. 5. To better understand and relate to people in the workplace that have opinions, perspectives, lifestyles and cultures that are different from our own. Target Audience: All employees.
